The Myrtle Beach airport is located within 3 miles of downtown Myrtle Beach and within a mile of the ocean.
It is the air gateway to the 60-mile-long Grand Strand, South Carolina's stretch of beach and most popular
tourist destination. MYR is one of 7 launch abort sites for the Space Shuttle. The airport runway was
shared with the Myrtle Beach Air Force Base (now closed) which was home to A-10 warthogs.
The airport is 25 feet above sea level.
Currently, the Horry County Department of Airports maintains the runway and portions of
its former military flight line.
